Canyon Wall Vest Knitting Pattern PDF

Knitting pattern for a Fair Isle style vest / slipover in four adult sizes using nine colors of fingering / jumper weight Shetland wool yarn, circularly knit in traditional Fair Isle style using steeks without any reinforcement. This method demands that you use 100% traditional wool yarn. Superwash wools and non-wool yarns are not suitable for this design. I highly recommend Jamieson’s Shetland Spindrift 100% Shetland wool yarn for this project. Yarn packs in the colors shown are available here.

SIZES: 36 (39 3/4, 42, 46 1/4)” / 91 (101, 107, 117) cm.

GAUGE: The first and third sizes are knit at 32 sts over 4” / 10cm; the second and fourth sizes are knit at 29 sts over 4” / 10cm.

NEEDLES: Depending upon the gauge you choose, for knitters who tend to knit loosely, we suggest US #1 1/2 to US #2 for the ribbing and US #2 1/2 to US #3 for the main body. If you tend to knit tightly, we suggest US #2 to US #2 1/2 for the ribbing and US #3 to US #4 for the main body.

YARN: Seventeen 25g balls of fingering / jumper weight Jamieson’s Shetland Spindrift 100% Shetland wool yarn. Yarn packs are available from us here.

NOTIONS: Stitch markers; stitch holders; scissors; a sheet of cardboard; tapestry needle.

ERRATA:

January 9, 2021, page 5, 5th paragragh, corrected re: Shoulder Bind-Offs = as we continue around circularly, the back shoulder bind-offs occur first on the right, then left.

December 12, 2023, page 10, Front Left Layout chart. This chart is optional and is used to help you confirm color choices as you work the armhole shaping and v-neck decreases. The bottom 6 rows of this chart, which show the already-knit area immediate below the bind-offs and decreases, was not correct. If you jumped right in to the bind-offs and decreases this chart is meant to focus on, you may have never noticed the mismatch that was there in the bottom six rows prior to 12/12/23. Everything has been corrected now and, while it should not have any impact on your Canyon Wall Vest either way, you’re welcome to contact me for a corrected version of that chart.
