Twenty 25g balls of Jamieson’s Shetland Spindrift fingering weight 100% Shetland wool yarn, using a total of twelve colors, to knit the 20”/ 51 cm square Catalina Highway Pillow cover, as shown. Uses traditional Fair Isle knitting technique with machine-sewn steeks and garter stitch edging. Two strands of yarn are held together throughout giving you a speedy, DK weight project from fingering weight yarn! Colors included are: Natural White, Blue Lovat, Eesit, Madder, Moorit, Mooskit, Spice, Coral, Eucalyptus, Ginger, Laurel and Willow.
Pillow insert and optional zipper are not included.

Fair Isle style pillow covering with garter stitch border and zippered opening. Two different strands of Jamieson’s Shetland Spindrift fingering weight 100% Shetland wool yarn are held together throughout, making this a relatively speedy, DK weight project. Another benefit: By mixing two colors for each strand, we broaden the color play possibilities, creating especially interesting movement and blending of hues throughout the design. Twelve different shades of Spindrift are used in the design which requires a total of twenty 25g balls. See notes at end of pattern for making two fabric-backed pillows or a simplified, no-steek, no-border, no-zip 18” version.
The highly detailed pattern includes a photo tutorial of the machine-sewn steek and zipper insert processes. (Easy-peasy, I swear!) Yet another benefit: By steeking the border, we avoid having to weave in all those loose ends - yay! Suitable for intermediate knitters familiar with Fair Isle technique and working from charts.
GAUGE: 20 sts and 20 rows = 4” / 10cm in stranded stockinette stitch.
NEEDLES: If you knit loosely, try US size 6 / 4.00mm for the trim and US size 7 / 4.50mm for the main portion. If you knit tightly, try US size 7 / 4.50mm for the trim and US size 8 / 5.00 for the main portion. Use whatever size needle you need to get the above gauge.
YARN: Twenty 25g balls of Jamieson's Shetland Spindrift 100% Shetland wool fingering / jumper weight yarn in twelve different colors, 115 yds / 105 m per ball.
